To make a cane is considered to be a complicated process , but I think it depends not only on the experience you have but also on the material you choose . Even if you are a beginner you can make a simple flower cane if you do not hurry and work carefully . I could not wait for the results when making my first canes . But very often such a hurry worsens the results . So let us be patient.

To make a flower cane we'll need the following : a pack of black and white clay, a sharp blade, a rolling pin, a Conditioning Machine (if you have one), sanding papers to polish baked sheets and a ruler for more accurate measuring of cane parts.
Для початку гарненько розминаємо пластик, щоб вийшли зайві бульбашки повітря і матеріал розігрівся. Спочатку попрацюємо з білим кольором. Я ліплю в рукавичках і білій футболці, бо білий колір моментально все до себе приклеює, пил, ворсинки і ін. Готуємо бочонок білого кольору приблизно 25 грам. Решта пластик розгортаємо тонко, шматочок білого і шматочок чорного.
First of all I condition the clay to expel air bubbles and to bring the clay to its soft workable condition . I start with the white color clay. I wear gloves and a white T-shirt to prevent adhering of dust and house moss to the clay . The white color of clay makes it visible right away . I roll a white colored cylinder of about 25 grams. From the rest of the clay I make black and white sheets .

Next thing to do is to make petals of this cylinder . At first I do guidelines for cutting (there stamens will be) .I cut the cylinder into two pieces. Then I divide each piece into two again. Remember the order of the parts. I apply the pieces to the black clay sheet , cut it along the edges of pieces and join the pieces in the order they were to form the cylinder . As the result the black layers between white pieces should appear to look like rays coming out from one point .

Before reduction must pass some time, so I put the big petal cane aside so far . Next stage is preparing the center of the flower -cane. To make it we'll need two canes. I wrap a white clay rod with a black sheet (the rod as thick as the finger approximately) and a black one with a white one.
I reduce the cane with the black center till it is about 9 cm long and cut away distorted ends. I also cut a 3 cm long piece of it. We'll need it later. As for the cane with the white center I reduce it as thin as possible .

Then I cut the thin cane into 10 pieces about 3 cm long each and surround the thick one by them . Then I reduce the whole bundle till it 19-20 cm long. I cut away distorted ends (do not economize, cut all damaged ends), divide the remaining well-formed cane into 6 parts. I join them together to form a flower.
Now I take the piece of the cane with the white center I've laid aside , reduce it till it 16-17 cm long, divide it into 5 parts and put them into gaps of the flower cane .

Тепер ковбаску з пелюсткою скорочуються до 15-17 см, попередньо відрізавши нерівні краї (на фото я як раз показую що я маю на увазі під нерівним краєм, бачите там де починаються тичинки білий просвіт і біля основи трохи накладення шарів чорного). Що залишився шматочок ділимо на п'ять рівних частин по 3 см. Ставимо їх навколо серединки, дивимося, щоб центр тичинок прилягав до серединки квітки, а то буде негарно, якщо тичинки будуть стирчати боком. Проміжки між пелюстками заповнюємо тоненькою чорною трубочкою.
I cut a 3 cm long piece from the cane to form the center of the flower . I reduce the petal cane till it's 15-17 cm long. Make sure you cut deformed ends first (at the photo I've shown what I mean by deformed ends . You can see an overlapping of black layers at the point stamens start ). Then I divide the petal cane into 5 parts 3 cm long each. Put them around the center cane carefully. Make sure that the starting point of stamens adjoins the center correctly not to spoil the pattern . I put black rods into gaps between petals.
Обертаємо нашу ковбаску пластом чорного кольору, скорочуються. Спочатку я здавила приблизно до товщини 1 см потім половинку відрізаю і її ще трохи скорочуються, так виходить дві ковбаски з різним розміром квіточок. Тонко нарізаю ці ковбаски дуже гострим лезом. Ще у мене залишився шматочок від центральної частини, я його теж нарізала тоненько, менше 1 мм. Розкачуємо основу під сережки, трохи тонше тієї, що хочемо отримати в готовому виробі, намічаємо контур будущіхкружочков, поки не відрізаємо. Розкладаємо всередині контуру зрізи, трохи заступаючи один на одного.
Now I wrap the whole cane by black layer and reduce it . At first I reduced the cane to 1 cm in across. Then I cut a half of it and reduce it further . As the result you get two canes of different width . I cut these canes with a very thin blade . I also slice the remaining center cane of less than 1 mm in thickness. I roll the basic layer for earrings. It should be a bit thinner than the ready item . I mark guidelines of future circles on the basic layer not cutting them yet . I lay out slices inside the marked circles overlapping a bit .

Then I roll them all together till slices and the bottom layer form one smoth layer . I roll it on the glass (I'll leave earrings to bake on the same glass ), cover it with plastic wrap, smoth it and cut by metal cutter.

Then I bake it in the oven. After baking I use low-grit sandpaper and toilet linen to smoth and polish it .

The second part of the tutorial is how to draw all the needed component parts together to make earrings . You'll need the following tools and materials: earring settings (I used back hoop earrings), pins of two types - eyepins and pins to glue, bead caps and a couple of glass beads matching the polymer part of earring , a small drill bit , wire cutter pliers, round nose pliers and glue.
